Painters in Oshawa
Absolut Painting paints homes in Oshawa: interiors, exteriors, ceilings, trim and cabinets. The older stock near downtown and through the south end is where most of the careful work sits. Those houses have plaster walls, small rooms with a door on every wall, ceilings that have taken water at some point, and finishes from every decade since they were built, including textured walls and dark panelling. North Oshawa is newer, with tall drywall rooms and builder flat paint. We walk the house with you and write a quote that lists every step of prep.
Oshawa, on the ground.
In the older houses the first job is reading the surface. Water stains on a ceiling get a stain-blocking primer. Walls that were given a knockdown or orange-peel texture in a past renovation are either sanded and skimmed flat or painted with a thicker roller sleeve that keeps the texture even. Rooms that have been smoked in need the walls washed and sealed with a shellac primer before colour, or the odour and the yellow come back through. Trim with many coats is sanded back and enamelled. In the north end, the work is primer over builder flat and two coats on tall walls.
On site, furniture is moved and covered, floors protected, holes filled, cracks caulked, sanded and spot-primed. Two full coats, cut by hand at the ceiling and the trim. Doors and trim sprayed where the room can be sealed. The crew cleans up every day and walks the finished rooms with you before leaving, then books a touch-up visit. Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams paint, a [2-year] written workmanship warranty, insured and WSIB covered [John confirms]. John Kotlar quotes the work and leads the crew. If something turns up behind the old paint, you hear about it before we carry on.
Older Oshawa houses have usually been painted many times before, so the quote starts with sealing and repairing what is already on the wall.
Oshawa's older core has plaster walls, small rooms with several doorways, stained ceilings and finishes from many decades, while the north end is newer drywall in builder flat paint.
Driveways are often short and streets near downtown can be narrow, so the crew plans where the van stops and carries equipment in.
Stain and odour sealing, texture removal, whole-house interiors, trim and doors, exteriors and cabinet refinishing are the regular Oshawa jobs.

Questions from Oshawa
The previous owner smoked in our Oshawa house. Can paint get rid of the smell and the yellow?
Yes, with the right sequence. The walls and ceilings are washed with a degreasing cleaner to remove the nicotine film, then sealed with a shellac-based primer that locks in the residue and the odour. Ordinary primer does not do it. After the sealer, two coats of finish go on as normal. Trim and doors get the same wash and sealer before enamel. It is the one case where the primer is doing most of the work.
Our walls have a knockdown texture from an old renovation. Can they be made smooth?
Yes. The texture is sanded to knock down the high points, then the wall is skimmed with two or three thin coats of compound, sanded and primed before paint. It is dusty, careful work and the room is sealed while it happens. If you prefer to keep the texture, we paint it with a deep-pile roller so the coverage is even in the dips. The quote shows both so you can choose.
Can you paint the exterior brick on our south-end house, and should we?
It can be painted, but think first. Painted brick is permanent in practice, and brick that has been painted before needs the old coating checked for peeling. If you go ahead, the brick is washed, mortar repaired, primed with a masonry primer and painted with a breathable masonry paint so moisture can still escape. If the brick is sound and you simply want it fresher, a wash and repointing might be the better answer.
