Interior painting
Absolut paints interiors the slow way: furniture moved to the middle and covered, floors taped off, every hole filled and sanded before the first coat goes on. Two full coats of Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams, with the edges cut by hand rather than taped. You get a written quote before we start and a walk-through with John before the crew leaves.
Concept imageryOn the quote, from the start.
- 01A walkthrough of every room on the list, with a written quote that names the paint line and the sheen
- 02Furniture moved and covered, floors and fixtures protected with drop sheets and paper
- 03Nail holes filled, cracks caulked, scuffs sanded and spot-primed so the finish reads as one surface
- 04Two full coats on walls, rolled in the same direction and cut by hand at the ceiling, trim and corners
- 05Closets, inside of doors and the strip above the kitchen cabinets, not just the parts you see from the sofa
- 06Daily clean-up, a final walk-through with you, and a touch-up visit under the [2-year] written workmanship warranty
No figures published. The drivers, in order.
| Driver | What we look at |
|---|---|
| Wall area and ceiling height | A nine foot wall takes more paint and more ladder time than an eight foot one, and a two-storey foyer takes staging. |
| Condition of the walls | A few nail holes is normal prep. Nicotine, water stains, failing paint or plaster cracks need primer and repair before colour. |
| Colour change | Going from a deep colour to a pale one, or from pale to deep, can need a tinted primer or a third coat to cover evenly. |
| Furniture and occupancy | An empty house paints faster than a lived-in one where each room is cleared, painted and put back in turn. |
The paint line itself moves the quote less than people expect. Prep and access are what set the number, and the written quote shows each room as its own line. Read the cost guide.
John walks the house with you, checks the walls in daylight and notes anything that needs repair before paint. You get a written quote within [n] days that lists each room, the product, the sheen and the number of coats. Colour help is part of it, including sample pots for the walls you are unsure about.
On the first morning the crew moves furniture to the centre of each room and covers it, then lays drop sheets and paper over the floors. Holes are filled, cracks caulked, glossy spots scuffed and bare patches spot-primed. Outlets and switch plates come off rather than being painted around.
Walls get two full coats, cut in by hand at every edge. The crew cleans up each evening so you can use the rest of the house. A typical room is done in [n] days and the job ends with a walk-through with you, in good light, before the last drop sheet comes up.
Questions about interior painting
Which sheen should I use on interior walls?
Matte or eggshell for living rooms, bedrooms and hallways, because they hide roller marks and small wall flaws. Pearl or satin in kitchens, bathrooms and mudrooms, where you will wipe the walls. Flat on ceilings. We put it in the quote room by room so there are no surprises.
Do you use low-VOC paint?
Yes. Benjamin Moore Regal Select and Aura and Sherwin-Williams Emerald Interior are all low-VOC lines, and they are what we reach for first on interiors. The smell is faint and fades within a day, which matters when you are sleeping in the house during the job.
How many coats do you put on?
Two full coats on every wall, no matter how good the first one looks. One coat can pass in flat light and show holidays the first sunny morning. A strong colour change may need a tinted primer first, and we say so in the quote.
Do I need to move my furniture?
No. The crew moves it to the middle of the room and covers it, then puts it back. We ask you to clear small items, pictures and anything breakable off shelves and walls before we arrive. Pianos and very heavy pieces are discussed at the walkthrough.
My house is older than 1980. Should I worry about lead paint?
Possibly, on original trim and older layers. Paint sold before the late 1970s can contain lead, so we do not dry-sand suspect surfaces. Intact paint is cleaned, deglossed with wet methods and sealed under the new coats. If the old paint is flaking badly we test it first and tell you what the safe options are.
How long does a whole house take?
A single room is usually [n] days including prep. A full main floor is [n] days and a whole house [n] days to [n] weeks depending on the ceilings, the trim and whether you are living in it. The schedule is written on the quote.
