Painters in Vaughan

Absolut Painting paints homes in Vaughan: interiors, exteriors, feature walls, coffered ceilings, trim and cabinets. Woodbridge, Maple, Thornhill and Kleinburg are rebuild country, so many calls are new houses with nine or ten foot ceilings, smooth drywall, a great deal of trim and millwork, and a single off-white builder coat over all of it. Thornhill and older Maple still have postwar houses with eight foot ceilings and bulkheads. The two need different prep, so we walk the house before writing a quote, and the quote lists each step so you can see where the hours go.

Vaughan in detail

Vaughan, on the ground.

A new Vaughan house is a trim job as much as a wall job. Coffered ceilings, wainscoting, crown and wide casings arrive from the builder with one thin coat, and getting them to a hard, level finish means filling the nail holes, caulking every joint, sanding and spraying two coats of enamel in a sealed room. The walls take a primer over builder flat and two finish coats. Exteriors on these houses are often acrylic stucco over foam, which is washed, patched with a matching stucco repair and painted with an elastomeric coating. Older postwar houses bring plaster cracks and bulkhead seams to fill.

On site, furniture is moved and covered, floors protected, holes filled, cracks caulked, sanded and spot-primed. Two full coats, cut by hand at the ceiling and the trim, tape pulled while the paint is still soft. Trim, doors and cabinets are sprayed where a dust-free area can be set up. The crew cleans up every day and walks the finished rooms with you before leaving, and a touch-up visit follows. Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams paint, a [2-year] written workmanship warranty, insured and WSIB covered [John confirms]. John Kotlar quotes the job and leads the crew.

A new house in Vaughan carries more trim than wall, so the quote is usually decided by the millwork and the spray setup rather than the square footage.

Housing

Vaughan is mostly recent builds and tear-down rebuilds through Woodbridge, Maple and Kleinburg with tall ceilings, heavy trim and builder flat paint, plus older postwar plaster houses in Thornhill.

Access and logistics

New houses have wide driveways, double garages and level entries, so the crew can set up a sealed spray area and scaffold indoors without trouble.

Jobs we see most

First repaints over builder paint, sprayed trim and coffered ceilings, feature walls, cabinet refinishing and stucco exteriors lead the Vaughan work.

Questions from Vaughan

The builder sprayed our whole house in one colour, ceilings included. Can you give us separate wall and ceiling colours?

Yes, and that is the usual first repaint in a new Vaughan house. The ceilings get a flat ceiling white, the walls a primer and two coats of the colour you choose, and the line between them is cut by hand so it is straight even where the drywall corner is not. It changes the whole house more than any furniture purchase, because builder monotone flattens every room.

We have coffered ceilings and wainscoting. How do you paint that much trim well?

By spraying it. The room is sealed, the walls and floors are masked, every nail hole is filled and every joint caulked, then the trim is sanded and sprayed with two coats of enamel that levels to a factory finish. Brushing that much millwork leaves marks and takes far longer. The sprayed trim is done before the walls, and the walls are cut to it by hand afterward.

Our exterior is stucco over foam. Can it be painted, and with what?

Yes. Acrylic stucco is washed, hairline cracks and impact damage are repaired with a matching stucco patch, and the surface gets two coats of an elastomeric or high-build acrylic coating that bridges small cracks and sheds water. The colour change is the easy part. The repairs are what the quote is built on. Exterior stucco work is booked for the warmer months and dry weather.
