Painters in Aurora
Absolut Painting paints homes in Aurora: interiors, exteriors, stairwells, window frames and cabinets. The older core around Yonge and Wellington has century houses on deep lots with back additions built decades later, so one house can have plaster in the front rooms and drywall at the back. The subdivisions east and north of the core are newer, with nine foot main floors, open plans and builder flat paint. We walk the house with you, note which surfaces are which, and write a quote that lists every step of prep rather than one number.
Aurora, on the ground.
In the century houses the front rooms are plaster with cracks to fill and trim with many coats to sand back, and the addition behind them is drywall that just needs filling and priming. Painting the two to look like one house means matching the sheen and cutting the colour change at a doorway. Wood window frames and sashes on these houses are often peeling outside and need scraping, priming and an exterior enamel before the glazing fails. In the newer subdivisions the work is a primer over builder flat, two coats, and a plank for the second floor hall above the stair.
On site, furniture is moved and covered, floors protected, holes filled, cracks caulked, sanded and spot-primed. Two full coats, cut by hand at the ceiling and the trim. Doors and trim sprayed where the room can be sealed. Aurora is a full day out for the crew, so the job is booked as consecutive days rather than spread across weeks. Daily clean-up, a walk-through with you before the crew leaves, a touch-up visit after. Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams paint, a [2-year] written workmanship warranty. John Kotlar quotes the job and leads the crew.
Where a Aurora house has a later addition, the plaster and the drywall are prepped differently and finished to the same sheen so the join does not show.
Aurora has century houses with plaster front rooms and later drywall additions in the older core, and newer subdivision housing with nine foot ceilings and builder flat paint east and north of it.
Driveways are deep and garages attached in the newer areas, while the older core has narrower drives and a step up at the back door, and the crew books full days because of the drive.
Whole-house interiors, stairwells and foyers, wood window frames and exterior trim, and cabinet refinishing are the usual Aurora jobs.

Questions from Aurora
Our Aurora house is plaster at the front and drywall in the addition. Will the two look the same once painted?
Yes, if the prep is matched. Plaster takes more filling and a full primer over old repairs, drywall takes less, but both end in the same two finish coats at the same sheen. Where the texture differs noticeably at the joint, the crew skims the transition so the eye does not catch it. The colour change, if there is one, is placed at a doorway rather than along the seam.
The paint on our wood window frames is peeling outside. Can you repaint them without replacing the windows?
Yes, if the wood is sound. Frames and sashes are scraped, sanded, spot-primed on bare wood and painted with two coats of exterior enamel, with loose glazing compound replaced first. Rotten sills are pointed out rather than painted over. Done in the warmer months, it keeps old windows in service for years, and it is far less than replacing them.
How do you paint the upstairs hallway wall that runs down the stairs?
With a plank between a ladder on the upper landing and an adjustable ladder on the stair, levelled and secured, and the railing padded. The crew cuts the ceiling line by hand and rolls the wall in one continuous pass so the sheen does not change halfway down. In a newer Aurora house that wall and the foyer are the two items the quote lists on their own.
