Painters in Uxbridge
Absolut Painting paints homes in Uxbridge: interiors, exteriors, heritage trim, cedar siding and cabinets for the village and the properties out on the moraine. The heritage houses near the main street set the tone. Tall baseboards, deep window reveals, plaster walls that have moved and wood exteriors that have been painted in every colour the last century offered. Out on the acreage the houses are newer and larger, with cedar siding, stone and tall drywall rooms. We walk whichever house you have and write a quote that lists every step of prep.
Uxbridge, on the ground.
In a heritage house the trim is the painting. Deep profiles on baseboards and casings hold a hundred years of paint, so the crew sands them back carefully, fills the chips, primes and applies an enamel that levels into the mouldings rather than filling them. Plaster is cracked and patched, so it is filled, taped where needed and primed. Exterior colours on the main street are chosen to suit the house and the neighbours [and any heritage guidance the Township applies]. On the moraine, cedar siding is washed, allowed to dry fully and stained or painted with a product that lets the wood breathe.
On site, furniture is moved and covered, floors protected, holes filled, cracks caulked, sanded and spot-primed. Two full coats, cut by hand at the ceiling and the trim. Trim and doors sprayed where the room can be sealed, brushed where a heritage room is better served by it. Daily clean-up, a walk-through with you before the crew leaves, a touch-up visit after. Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams paint, a [2-year] written workmanship warranty, insured and WSIB covered [John confirms]. John Kotlar quotes the work and leads the crew, in the village and out on the moraine.
Older houses in Uxbridge carry tall baseboards and deep reveals, so the trim is sanded back and enamelled in thin coats so the profile stays sharp.
Uxbridge pairs a heritage village core with tall mouldings, plaster and painted wood exteriors with newer houses on the moraine in cedar, stone and tall drywall rooms.
Village streets are narrow and rural driveways are long, so the crew plans where the van and ladders go before the first day.
Heritage trim and plaster, exterior colour work on the village streets, cedar siding on the moraine, whole-house interiors and cabinet refinishing are the usual Uxbridge jobs.

Questions from Uxbridge
How do you choose exterior colours for a heritage house in Uxbridge?
By looking at the house, its era and the street. Both Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams publish historical palettes, and most heritage houses look right in a body colour with a contrasting trim and a darker sash or door. We paint large sample patches on the sunny and shaded sides so you see the colour in both lights. [If the house sits in a designated heritage area, the Township may need to approve exterior changes first.]
Our baseboards are tall and deeply moulded. Will painting fill in the detail?
Not if it is done properly. The crew sands the old build-up back so the profile reads clearly, fills the chips and dents, primes the bare spots and applies two thin coats of a leveling enamel, brushed or sprayed. Thick coats are what blur a moulding. Where the build-up is too deep to sand, the worst sections are stripped first. Tall trim done well is the feature of a room like that.
Should the cedar siding on our moraine house be stained or painted?
Stained, in most cases. A semi-transparent or solid stain soaks into cedar and weathers gradually rather than peeling, and it lets the wood breathe. Paint can work on cedar that has already been painted, but it needs a stain-blocking primer so the tannins do not bleed through. Either way the siding is washed and left to dry completely before anything goes on, and the work is booked for warm, dry weather.
