Painters in Pickering

Absolut Painting paints homes in Pickering: interiors, exteriors, kitchen cabinets, trim and feature walls. Most of the city's houses went up in the 1990s and 2000s, which is the age when the original finishes start to look tired at the same time. The walls have had one or two repaints, the kitchen cabinets are thermofoil or oak, the trim is builder-grade and the odd room still has a sponged or ragged faux finish from the decade it was built. We walk the house with you and write a quote that lists every step of prep.

Pickering in detail

Pickering, on the ground.

The walls in these houses are drywall and straightforward: fill, sand, spot-prime, two coats. The surprises are elsewhere. A faux-finished wall has to be skimmed or sanded flat before it will take a plain colour, or the texture reads through. Thermofoil cabinet doors can be painted if the film is tight to the door, and oak doors need grain-filling before they will spray smooth. Main floor ceilings are eight or nine feet, which decides whether the crew is on ladders or poles. North of the highway the rural houses and older stock near the lake bring plaster, wood siding and farmhouse trim.

On site, furniture is moved and covered, floors protected, holes filled, cracks caulked, sanded and spot-primed. Two full coats, cut by hand at the ceiling and the trim, tape pulled while the paint is still soft. Cabinets, doors and trim are sprayed in a sealed, dust-free setup. The crew cleans up every day and walks the finished work with you before leaving, and a touch-up visit follows. Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams paint, a [2-year] written workmanship warranty, insured and WSIB covered [John confirms]. John Kotlar quotes the job and leads the crew.

Kitchens in Pickering are often at the age where the cabinet doors are tired but sound, so refinishing them is quoted alongside the walls.

Housing

Pickering is largely 1990s and 2000s drywall subdivision housing with original cabinets and builder trim, plus older plaster stock near the lake and country properties to the north.

Access and logistics

Attached garages and wide driveways make it easy to park the van and set up a sealed spray area for cabinet doors, while rural addresses need the route confirmed first.

Jobs we see most

Kitchen cabinet refinishing, whole-house interiors, faux-finish removal, trim and doors, and siding and exterior trim are the bulk of the Pickering work.

Questions from Pickering

Our 1990s kitchen has thermofoil cabinet doors. Can those be painted?

Yes, if the film is still bonded to the door. Thermofoil is cleaned, scuff-sanded lightly, primed with a bonding primer made for slick surfaces and sprayed with two coats of enamel. Where the film is peeling at the edges, usually near the dishwasher or the range, those doors are either repaired or replaced before spraying. We check every door at the walkthrough and tell you which ones need help.

There is a sponge-painted faux finish in our dining room. Can you just paint over it?

Not well. A sponged or ragged finish has texture and multiple glaze layers that show through a flat colour as blotches. The crew sands the wall to knock down the texture, skims it where needed, primes the whole surface and then applies two coats. It is more prep than a plain wall, which the quote shows, but it is the only way to get a clean result.

Can vinyl siding be painted?

Yes, with limits. Vinyl is washed thoroughly and painted with an exterior acrylic made for vinyl, in a colour no darker than the original, because dark colours absorb heat and can warp the panels. Done that way it lasts well and costs far less effort than replacement. We confirm the colour against the manufacturer's vinyl-safe range before mixing, and exterior work is booked for the warmer months.
