Painters in Georgina
Absolut Painting paints homes in Georgina: interiors, exteriors, pine panelling, trim and cabinets for Keswick, Sutton, Jackson's Point and the shoreline in between. A large share of the housing started as a cottage and became a year-round house, and that history shows on every surface. Knotty pine on the walls and ceilings, additions in drywall beside original rooms in panelling, and exteriors in wood siding that take full sun and wind off the lake. We walk the house with you and write a quote that lists each step of prep.
Georgina, on the ground.
Pine panelling is the Georgina decision. Painting it means cleaning, sanding, sealing every knot with a shellac primer so the resin does not bleed through, caulking the board gaps if you want a smooth look, and two coats of enamel. Leaving it natural means a wash and a clear coat instead. We show you both on a sample board. Exteriors on the water fade fast on the sunny side, so the siding is washed, scraped and primed before two coats of a UV-resistant exterior acrylic. Rooms facing the lake take strong daylight, so sheen is chosen in the room, not from a chart.
On site, furniture is moved and covered, floors protected, holes filled, cracks caulked, sanded and spot-primed. Two full coats, cut by hand at the ceiling and the trim. Trim and doors are sprayed where the room can be sealed. Daily clean-up, a walk-through with you before the crew leaves, and a touch-up visit after. Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams paint, a [2-year] written workmanship warranty, insured and WSIB covered [John confirms]. John Kotlar quotes the work and leads the crew, including on properties that are not occupied year round, and he is the one you reach by phone.
Rooms facing the water in Georgina take strong daylight, so sheen and colour are judged from sample patches in the room before the paint is ordered.
Much of Georgina's housing began as lakefront cottages and was converted to year-round use, so pine panelling, drywall additions and sun-faded wood siding sit side by side.
Shoreline lanes can be narrow and some driveways drop toward the water, so access for the van and ladders is checked before the booking.
Painting or clear-coating pine panelling, whole-cottage interiors, lake-side exteriors and trim, and cabinet refinishing make up most of the Georgina work.

Questions from Georgina
Can knotty pine walls be painted without the knots bleeding through?
Yes, if every knot is sealed first. Pine resin bleeds a yellow-brown stain through ordinary primer and paint within months. The crew sands the boards, seals the knots and the whole surface with a shellac-based primer, caulks the gaps between boards if you want them to read as one plane, and applies two coats of enamel. Done properly, painted pine stays white for years.
The lake side of our house fades much faster than the road side. Why, and what paint lasts?
Sun and reflected light off the water break down paint faster, and wind drives rain into the siding. The fix is proper prep and a top-grade exterior acrylic with strong UV resistance, in a lighter colour where you can live with it, since dark colours fade and heat up more. We prime any bare wood fully and put two coats on the lake side rather than one and a touch-up.
We are not at the cottage during the week. Can you work while we are away?
Yes. We ask for a key or a lockbox code and a phone contact, confirm heat and power will be on, and send photos as rooms are finished. Any decision that comes up on site is sent to you with a photo before the crew continues. The final walk-through can be done when you are next up, and the touch-up visit is booked around your schedule.
