Painters in Scugog
Absolut Painting paints homes in Scugog: interiors, exteriors, sunrooms, trim and cabinets in Port Perry and around Lake Scugog. Port Perry's older streets carry heritage houses with plaster, narrow halls and painted wood exteriors, and the lakeside properties lean the other way: additions, sunrooms with windows on three walls, and cottages that were winterized at some point and still show it in the walls. We walk the house with you, inside and out, and write a quote that lists every step of prep, because on a lakeside property the prep is where the difference lives.
Scugog, on the ground.
Sunrooms and lakeside rooms are bright, and bright rooms are unforgiving. Every roller lap and every lump of filler shows, so the walls are sanded flat and primed before colour, and the sheen is kept low to soften the light. Winterized cottages often have paint peeling at the ceiling corners and around windows where warm air has met cold wall and condensed, which means scraping, sealing with a stain-blocking primer and painting with a product that tolerates some humidity. Heritage houses in the village get plaster filled and primed, trim sanded back and enamelled, and exteriors washed, scraped and primed.
On site, furniture is moved and covered, floors protected, holes filled, cracks caulked, sanded and spot-primed. Two full coats, cut by hand at the ceiling and the trim, tape pulled while the paint is still soft. Doors and trim sprayed where the room can be sealed. The crew cleans up every day and walks the finished rooms with you before leaving, then returns for a touch-up visit. Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams paint, a [2-year] written workmanship warranty, insured and WSIB covered [John confirms]. John Kotlar quotes the job and leads the crew.
Lakeside rooms in Scugog are lit from three sides, so the walls are prepped flat and painted in a low sheen that does not broadcast every roller mark.
Scugog centres on Port Perry's heritage streets, with plaster and painted wood, and the houses ringing Lake Scugog, many of them winterized cottages and additions with sunrooms.
Narrow halls in the older village houses and sloping lakeside driveways decide where the crew parks and how the ladders come in.
Sunrooms and bright lakeside rooms, winterized cottage repairs, heritage trim and exteriors, whole-house interiors and cabinet refinishing are the common Scugog jobs.

Questions from Scugog
Our sunroom has windows on three sides and the walls look blotchy in daylight. How do you avoid that?
By prepping the wall flat and choosing the sheen carefully. The crew sands and skims any uneven filler, primes the whole wall so the surface is uniform, and rolls the finish in full-height passes with a wet edge so there are no laps. A matte or low-sheen eggshell hides small flaws that a satin would broadcast in that much light. We paint a sample patch so you see it in the actual room.
The paint peels every winter at the ceiling corners of our winterized cottage. Why, and can it be fixed?
Warm indoor air meets a cold, poorly insulated corner and condenses there, and the moisture lifts the paint. Painting alone will not stop it, but the right prep helps: the loose paint is scraped, the area is sealed with a stain-blocking primer and finished with a paint made for humid rooms. If the corners are wet rather than damp, the insulation or ventilation needs attention first, and we tell you so before painting.
Our Port Perry house is on a heritage street. Do you paint the exterior wood?
Yes. Wood siding, trim and porches are washed, scraped to a firm edge, feather-sanded, primed on bare wood and painted with two coats of exterior acrylic in colours that suit the age of the house. [If the property is designated or in a heritage area, check with the Township about exterior colour before the paint is ordered.] Exterior work is booked for warm, dry weather.
