Trim, doors and railings in Oshawa

Trim, doors and railings get filled, caulked, sanded and finished in a hard waterborne enamel, with doors sprayed flat where it suits. Stain and odour sealing, texture removal, whole-house interiors, trim and doors, exteriors and cabinet refinishing are the regular Oshawa jobs.

Trim, doors and railings · Oshawa

Oshawa, on the ground.

Oshawa's older core has plaster walls, small rooms with several doorways, stained ceilings and finishes from many decades, while the north end is newer drywall in builder flat paint. Older homes carry layers of oil paint and stained oak that need a bonding primer, and newer homes carry primed MDF trim that needs filling at the joints before the first finish coat. Driveways are often short and streets near downtown can be narrow, so the crew plans where the van stops and carries equipment in. Floors are papered, trim is filled and caulked, doors come off for spraying, two coats go on and the tape is pulled while the paint is soft for a clean line.

Older Oshawa houses have usually been painted many times before, so the quote starts with sealing and repairing what is already on the wall.

What moves the quote in Oshawa

No figures published. The drivers, in order.

DriverWhat we look at
Metres of trim and number of doorsEach door has two faces and four edges. A main floor with ten doors and crown throughout is a different job from a hallway.
Existing finishPreviously painted trim needs a sand and two coats. Stained and varnished trim needs degreasing, a thorough sand and a bonding primer first.
Profile and detailFlat modern trim brushes quickly. Colonial profiles, panelled doors and turned spindles take more time per piece.
Spray or brushSpraying doors and rails gives the smoothest finish but needs more masking. We recommend the method that suits each piece.

Trim is often added to an interior walls quote, and the two together take fewer days than booking them apart because the room is only protected once. The quote shows trim as its own line either way.

Trim, doors and railings questions from Oshawa

Can you paint just the trim in my Oshawa home?

Yes. Trim on its own is a common job in Oshawa, especially when the walls are fine and the baseboards and doors have gone yellow. We protect the floors and walls, prep and paint the trim and leave the rest untouched.

Do you paint stair railings in Oshawa?

Yes. Rails, newel posts and spindles are sanded and finished by hand, in white, black or a colour that matches the trim. A railing in a Oshawa home is usually [n] days including cure time between coats.

Our walls have a knockdown texture from an old renovation. Can they be made smooth?

Yes. The texture is sanded to knock down the high points, then the wall is skimmed with two or three thin coats of compound, sanded and primed before paint. It is dusty, careful work and the room is sealed while it happens. If you prefer to keep the texture, we paint it with a deep-pile roller so the coverage is even in the dips. The quote shows both so you can choose.

Can you paint the exterior brick on our south-end house, and should we?

It can be painted, but think first. Painted brick is permanent in practice, and brick that has been painted before needs the old coating checked for peeling. If you go ahead, the brick is washed, mortar repaired, primed with a masonry primer and painted with a breathable masonry paint so moisture can still escape. If the brick is sound and you simply want it fresher, a wash and repointing might be the better answer.
