Trim, doors and railings in Mississauga

Trim, doors and railings get filled, caulked, sanded and finished in a hard waterborne enamel, with doors sprayed flat where it suits. Mississauga is mostly postwar and later suburban drywall housing with open plans and two-storey foyers, plus older plaster houses in Port Credit and Lorne Park and condo towers by the lake and Square One. Older homes carry layers of oil paint and stained oak that need a bonding primer, and newer homes carry primed MDF trim that needs filling at the joints before the first finish coat.

Trim, doors and railings · Mississauga

Mississauga, on the ground.

Houses have deep driveways and attached garages for sprayers and scaffold, while condos need a booked elevator and the building's working hours. Floors are papered, trim is filled and caulked, doors come off for spraying, two coats go on and the tape is pulled while the paint is soft for a clean line.

A Mississauga kitchen is usually seen from the family room, so where one colour meets the next matters as much as the colours themselves.

No figures published. The drivers, in order.

DriverWhat we look at
Metres of trim and number of doorsEach door has two faces and four edges. A main floor with ten doors and crown throughout is a different job from a hallway.
Existing finishPreviously painted trim needs a sand and two coats. Stained and varnished trim needs degreasing, a thorough sand and a bonding primer first.
Profile and detailFlat modern trim brushes quickly. Colonial profiles, panelled doors and turned spindles take more time per piece.
Spray or brushSpraying doors and rails gives the smoothest finish but needs more masking. We recommend the method that suits each piece.

Trim is often added to an interior walls quote, and the two together take fewer days than booking them apart because the room is only protected once. The quote shows trim as its own line either way.

Trim, doors and railings questions from Mississauga

Can you paint just the trim in my Mississauga home?

Yes. Trim on its own is a common job in Mississauga, especially when the walls are fine and the baseboards and doors have gone yellow. We protect the floors and walls, prep and paint the trim and leave the rest untouched.

Do you paint stair railings in Mississauga?

Yes. Rails, newel posts and spindles are sanded and finished by hand, in white, black or a colour that matches the trim. A railing in a Mississauga home is usually [n] days including cure time between coats.

Our kitchen, family room and hall all run together. Where do you stop one colour and start the next?

At an inside corner, a bulkhead edge or an archway, never in the middle of a flat wall. On an open plan we usually keep the connected areas in one colour and change at a natural break, with a second colour on a wall that ends cleanly on both sides. We paint sample patches at those breaks during the walkthrough so you can see where the line will fall.

How do you paint a two-storey foyer?

With a small scaffold tower or a plank between ladders, set on protected floors and secured before anyone climbs. The upper wall is cut by hand at the ceiling and rolled in sections so the sheen stays even top to bottom. The chandelier is dropped or wrapped. A foyer is its own line on the quote because of the equipment and the time it takes to do that wall well.
