Deck and fence staining in Mississauga

Houses have deep driveways and attached garages for sprayers and scaffold, while condos need a booked elevator and the building's working hours. The wood is washed, brightened and left to dry, failing stain is stripped, the surroundings are masked, and the stain goes on by brush and pad with railings done by hand. Deck and fence staining starts with clean, dry wood and ends with the stain and opacity that suit the species and the weather it takes.

Deck and fence staining · Mississauga

Mississauga, on the ground.

Mississauga is mostly postwar and later suburban drywall housing with open plans and two-storey foyers, plus older plaster houses in Port Credit and Lorne Park and condo towers by the lake and Square One. Older yards carry cedar decks and fences that have greyed and need brightening, and newer subdivisions carry pressure-treated decks that must dry out before a first coat. Whole-house interiors, two-storey foyers, trim and doors, cabinet refinishing and exterior siding, stucco and trim are the common Mississauga jobs.

A Mississauga kitchen is usually seen from the family room, so where one colour meets the next matters as much as the colours themselves.

What moves the quote in Mississauga

No figures published. The drivers, in order.

DriverWhat we look at
Square footage and railing lengthThe deck surface goes quickly. Spindles, stairs, lattice and the underside of a raised deck are brushed by hand and take most of the time.
Condition of the old finishBare or lightly weathered wood needs a wash and stain. A peeling solid stain needs stripping and sanding first, which can double the prep.
Type of stainTransparent and semi-transparent stains go on in one coat and show the wood. Solid stains behave like paint and often take two.
Fence length and both sidesA fence is measured in linear metres, counted twice if we are doing your neighbour's side too.

Weather sets the schedule. Stain needs dry wood, a dry forecast for a day or two after, and a surface that is not too hot, so a July heatwave can wait just as a wet May does.

Deck and fence staining questions from Mississauga

How early can you stain a deck in Mississauga?

Once Mississauga has a stretch of dry days with temperatures above the product's minimum and the wood reads dry on the meter, usually from [late May]. We book spring decks over the winter because the window fills quickly.

Can you stain my Mississauga fence on both sides?

Yes, with your neighbour's agreement for their side. It is the most common fence request in Mississauga because the colour and finish match from either yard. We mask their plantings the same as yours.

Can you paint aluminum siding on an older Mississauga house?

Yes. Chalky, faded aluminum siding takes paint well once it is washed thoroughly, because the chalk residue is what makes paint fail on it. After washing, a bonding primer goes on where the original finish has worn through, then two coats of exterior acrylic. Painted aluminum lasts well and looks far better than replacing it in most cases. Exterior work is booked for warmer weather.

Our kitchen, family room and hall all run together. Where do you stop one colour and start the next?

At an inside corner, a bulkhead edge or an archway, never in the middle of a flat wall. On an open plan we usually keep the connected areas in one colour and change at a natural break, with a second colour on a wall that ends cleanly on both sides. We paint sample patches at those breaks during the walkthrough so you can see where the line will fall.
